"Yes, Virginia, there really is a CANADA ! And they even have the North Pole - and are a rockin' -
Us Americans may have invented it, but some of those damn Canadians have near perfected it!
"What ya gonna do?" as Tony Soprano was wont to say.
Yup, you gotta give them a listen. They are sprouting bands up there like the Christmas trees they export - Blues artists that will give anyone a run for their money.
"Only in Canada?" you say. Well, their roots go deep in that northern soil: Joni Mitchell - Neil Young (Crosby, Stills, Nash and YOUNG) - Shania Twain - Alanis Moressette - Doc Walker -Burton Cummings - the late Jeff Healey. I could line them up from New York to L.A., well, I push the envelope - and , sure they are not all "true blues" eh, Joni - but there are plenty now who are -
And I'll lay four on you right here - four rolling wheels from the Canada Freight Train Blues Express. I would not recommend anyone I have not either danced to (with a partner!) or seen in person - you can mouse click them as below:
MATT MINGLEWOOD: A legend on the east coast - still cruisin' from the days of vinyl to "right now, tonight." Known as one of the hardest working bands in the country, endlessly touring - and blasting out their first album (see above on blog) in l976.
Thirty years and still blowing me away - (I met my ex at a dance in Cape Breton Island where he was playing) and born and bred - North Sydney, The "Northside." Matt - from a family of twelve (12). What does that say about his old man? - and his "jeans"? Matt still electrifies the women on stage - smokin' and rockin' the blues - " LADIES AND GENTLEMEN - The Matt Minglewood Band! " http://www.mattminglewood.com/

SUE FOLEY - What can I say, except she stoned me out - live on stage at Bearly's Blues Bar. (God, I hope her and Matt never get together!) Click on her site: http://www.suefoley.com/.
We will do a full length evening gown feature on her soon.... Check out her side line: "GUITAR WOMAN" - a history and chronicle of women in guitars - putting the ladies rightfully and square on the map - buy this book! Sue Foley. (Johnny Cash, her father named her Sue - not you!) - sorry Johnny, I forgot you were dead.
CHARLIE A'COURT - A serious double sided songwriter - one of the Canuck's bright new stars - and East Coast Music Award Winner. His music and passionate voice stir up up emotions, touching the very core of audiences around the world. Just google his photo Charlie A'Court Where have I seen those eyes before?...Van Morrison, London...? http:www.CharieAcourt.com
GARRATT MASON - Son a gun! With his OWN radiance, the rising son of The Prime Minister of The Blues (and coveted Order of Canada) the late DUTCHIE MASON.
I have danced to Garratt, as I danced to his father - and both together - father and son on stage - in the Dutchie Mason Blues Band. (A burned in experience - more on Garratt later this month - and, of course: THE DUTCHIE MASON BLUES FESTIVAL - An annual 3 days of BLUES, BIKES (yes, that kind) and BBQ - this year August 7th, 8th and 9th - we will be on site and no, I don't do wheelies....http:www.Dutchmason.com/festival
